Quick Setup

The following steps will guide you through creating a "one off" report in WebReporter using the new site profile wizard.

  1. Start the WebReporter client from the Windows start menu
  2. If the client does not show "Connected..." on the status bar
    1. Make sure that the WebReporter server is running.
    2. Select the  Site / Connect menu.
    3. Select or enter the name of the computer on which the server is running. If the server is running on the same computer as the client then just accept the default of "localhost".
  3. Select the OK button.
  4. Select the Site / New... menu.



  5. Enter a descriptive name for the site in Site Name and then select the type of log used by this site eg. for a Microsoft IIS web server pick "Microsoft IIS W3C Extended Log Format ".  See "Packagespecific information" for additional information for setting up specific web, email, proxy or firewall server site profiles and reports.
  6. Enter the path to the log file to be read. You can use wildcard characters if there are multiple files to be read. This path is relative to the computer on which the WebReporter server is running. To access logs on another Windows computer on the same network you can enter a UNC path in the form \\ComputerName\ShareName\ ...
  7. Select the  Next  button



  8. Enter the name and location of the output report file in Report Path eg. c:\reports\report.html. Select the type of report you would like to generate and the style.
  9. Select the Next  button



  10. Enter the domain to report on. For a web or email server the domain will be in the form mydomain.com. Leave this field empty to report on all domains. If this field is left blank for some email servers only incoming traffic will be shown.
  11. Select Process All to process all records within the log files or select a date range to process.
  12. Select Periodic Reports to regenerate this report at regular intervals.
  13. Select Finish to create the site profile.
  14. Select the Reports / Generate all reports menu option.
